Facebook Secret Apps

Facebook seems to be getting a lot of heat about certain bugs, as well as privacy issues these days.  One in particular that has been spreading all over the place was one bug that added applications without authorization of the user.  If you were signed into a website that had a corrosponding application on Facebook, and you were logged into Facebook, it would automatically add it to your list of authorized applications.  This of course was all done without the knowledge of the user in any way, the only way to detect this was to go into the list of applications and see for yourself what has been added.

The other part of this bug was that you were able to look at a glimpse of what your friends were browsing by looking to see if they had the application as well, which is a serious privacy flaw.  It seems as though Facebook was unaware of this new feature and it was of course a bug.  It seems a bit fishy though, if Facebook is able to get that sort of information on your browser, what else can it grab that we are not aware of?

Although I am a big supporter of Facebook and what it stands for, the path it seems to be following lately is a bit odd and off putting.  I would rather see them working on fixing flaws rather than upgrading their interface system every few months.  It seems they care more about the experience and sharing information than actually working with the users and finding out what they want in a social network.

  1. Don’t forget that there was an even greater privacy bug discovered that allowed you to view your friend’s live chats in real-time! Facebook needs to get their act together!
